OFT On the Prowl
Today begins a 3 Day sweep of the internet to identify scams. The sweep is being conducted by a task force created by the Office of Fair Trading (the UK Equivalent to the FTC). Here's a bit from the article:
It is estimated that around five million people in the UK fall victim to scams each year.
Mike Haley, Head of the Scambusters' team, said: "Bogus schemes are an increasing problem for those looking for genuine work to do at home. Like all scams, the telltale sign to beware of is the fact that the company will ask for money up-front. You should never have to pay a fee to get paid work."
Agreed. You should also never have to expect that 3 days out of 365 would be reserved for taking down internet scams. I applaud the efforts of the OFT, I just wish this wasn't a "special" event.
